Magic Film & Video Works brings over 35 years of negative preparation and conforming experience to our customers as one of the largest and most technologically advanced independent cutting/splicing facilities in the world.
At Magic, we take pride in our expert ability to service clients who choose either a traditional negative cutting (negative conforming) pathway or decide to utilize new digital production and post-production technologies that utilize special negative preparation and assembly techniques which provide a more efficient and cleaner workflow.
Post-production in today´s rapidly changing environment means keeping pace with technology while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of traditional film handling techniques, sound design, titles, visual effects and laboratory procedures. With the onset of the digital revolution and today´s use of Hi Def and Digital Intermediates (DI´s) it is imperative that negative handling techniques become completely proficient with the workflow associated with each procedure. We at Magic have always made it a priority to learn and understand the technological direction the industry is moving so as to best serve the needs of our clients.
In the 1980´s Magic pioneered systems and technologies to support new negative preparation and conforming demands. Magic pioneered "LokBox" technology to become the first negative cutting (negative conforming) facility to frame accurately conform negative to linear and non-linear editing applications such as Ediflex, Editdroid, D-vision, EMC, Lightworks, Adobe Premiere, Avid and Final Cut Pro.

In the late 90´s Magic introduced the MagicLok Digital Negative Cutting (Negative Conforming) System. This proprietary computer based system guarantees a 100% accurate matchback negative conform.
As of July 2006 we have relocated to our new location where we have created a state-of-the art negative handling/conforming facility the first of it's kind in the Los Angeles area. We have added positive air flow and humidity control calibrated to Kodak specifications for film. Hepa and charcoal filters filter all outside air that moves through the HVAC system - reducing static electricity and dirt particles. "Sticky floors" are at all entry points and dust free storage cabinets enclose all conformed negative. All pedestal splicers are monitored and calibrated to laboratory specifications.
